They say eating an apple a day keeps the doctor away. But keeping the doctor away isn’t always the best idea. In fact, experts say the best way to ensure you stay in tip-top health is see your primary care doctor at least once a year.

“Just like you take your dog or cat to the vet for an annual check up, you need to see a primary care doctor each year. Even if you feel fi ne, blood tests and health screenings are oft en the best indicators of your overall health,” noted Dr. Brian Rush, a primary care physician (PCP) at Mountain Family Health.

Dr. Rush and his partner, Dr. Julie Dolan, have a combined 40 years as Park City residents, and almost that long as physicians in the area. So they know a thing or two about Park City patients.
“It’s not uncommon to hear people say, ‘I never get sick’, or brag they haven’t seen a doctor in years.

95In Park City, we tend to pride ourselves on being active, healthy, and looking and feeling younger than our age,” added Dr. Rush. “But nonetheless, it’s really important to have a relationship with a primary care doctor and see him or her each year, even if nothing is wrong.”

Because PCPs oft en see your whole family, they may know your family’s health history. They focus on performing annual check-ups to see any changes in your health year over year, while also taking care of your overall health needs — wellness and prevention — and referrals to specialists as needed. Your doctor makes sure you get recommended screenings and risk assessments, and helps you navigate the complex healthcare world.

Dr. Dolan says patients who have a PCP also have better management of chronic diseases and lower healthcare costs, and are healthier people overall.

“By developing a relationship with a primary care doctor, you have an advocate and someone on your team when it comes to your health,” she said. “Primary care doctors are your first line of defense in getting well and staying healthy.”

Mountain Family Health is located at 2720 Homestead Rd #100 in Jeremy Ranch. Currently accepting new patients, the clinic offers easy and convenient access to primary care doctors, physician assistants and other medical specialists.
