Park City Offer Plenty to Do for Little Ones

By Annette Velarde

Grown-ups know that Park City is a giant playground, but if little ones aren’t quite ready for extreme sports or all day outdoor adventures, there are still plenty of
things around town for them to enjoy.

SNYDERVILLE BASIN RECREATION offers summer camps as well as team sports at their field house in Kimball Junction. They have play times for tots and an outdoor splash pad with spray fountains and puddles to stomp around in.

For the animal lovers, the HOGLE ZOO can help your little monkey get down and party like an animal! Along with all the animal exhibits, they also have a kid-size choo-choo train and plenty of spaces to kick back, unpack a picnic and relax. For those kids that are ready to take on the beauty of Utah, the 100-year-old scenic railroad, the HEBER VALLEY RAILROAD offers a variety of seasonal excursions, featuring breathtaking scenery, family-friendly adventures and special events.

HAUTE HOSTESS owner Emily White specializes in hand-crafted event styling for all occasions—parties, birthdays, bridal and baby showers, and special events. Every celebration is specially attended to with detail and design for one-of-a-kind themed, personalized parties. White’s thoughtfully designed invitations, imaginative tablescapes, playful décor and customizable, delicious menu creations create lifetime memories for family, friends and loved ones.

COLOR ME MINE
will celebrate your kid’s artistic ability in style. Each guest will create a painted pottery project of their choosing that will become a memento of their day of fun.

DEER VALLEY and CANYONS both have summer camp programs with lots of creative activities and action-packed adventure. PARK CITY MOUNTAIN RESORT has the ever- popular play park that includes an alpine slide, mountain coaster, zip line, kiddie rides, rock climbing and more. For children slightly older and a little more daring, stop by the UTAH OLYMPIC PARK. Inside the acclaimed facility is a museum with wonderful items from Olympic history. Outside you’ll find zip lines, alpine slides, skeleton rides and aerial/freestyle shows to entice and excite the entire family. Completed in late summer 2012, the Olympic Park is excited to introduce three new adventure courses and a Drop Tower.

If you’re looking for daily or drop-in childcare there are several places in Kimball junction to leave children in a loving, safe and playful environment. MONKEY MOUNTAIN on Ute Blvd., offers childcare, camps, and classes, all surrounded by a giant supervised playland that is sure to send children home with ear-to-ear smiles. KIDS CLUBHOUSE in Newpark provides games, snack, crafts and kids classes with certified staff members. If your child has excess energy to burn off then BLACK DIAMOND GYMNASTICS is the place! With more than 15,000 square feet of indoor playground, crafts, games and more, there is room enough for everyone to have a great day.

The MUNICIPAL ATHLETIC AND RECREATION CENTER (MARC) at 1200 Little Kate Road has sports leagues, classes and camps offering a variety of activities. Drop-in participation and daycare are available with a large play area, climbing wall and nap space. Kids will love the outdoor pool with slides, sprinklers and a lazy river.

Nearby reservoirs are great places to cool down and spend quality time together. JORDANELLE MARINA has boat, jet-ski and other water toy rentals to add some thrills to a day at the lake. HIGH COUNTRY RAFTING in nearby Provo Canyon provides shuttles and rafts or inner tubes for a fun, scenic float down the Provo River. If the sun has gotten the best of you and the kids are ready for a day indoors, then feel no guilt about spending the day inside at the PARK CITY MUSEUM. Enjoy hands-on exhibits for the entire family, real jail cells from mining days, an old fire engine, and pretend mining equipment for countless hours of imaginary play. The DISCOVERY GATEWAY CHILDREN’S MUSEUM located in Salt Lake City is another way to spend some time indoors while having fun and even learning something too. The Discovery offers children’s classes and over 60,000 square feet of interactive, hands-on exhibits.

Visit THE LIVING PLANET AQUARIUM where you can come nose-to-beak with Gentoo Penguins, peer into the eyes of a Giant Pacific Octopus, and pet a stingray. With so much to see, do and feel there is something for everyone at every age in the family.
