The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive in Provo on Wednesday, August 12, from 12 to 6. The event will take place at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 255 South 700 East, Provo.

The goal of the event is to collect blood to aid ill or injured individuals arriving at hospitals in the community.

Throughout the United States, Utah County is ranked the lowest in regards to per-capita blood donations.

“Attending local blood drives, such as the one on the 12th, can help improve the issue and
strengthen the community,” said Adam Whitaker, American Red Cross director of central and southern Utah.

“Healthy, eligible individuals are strongly urged to donate to help avoid potential shortages due to Coronavirus,” Whitaker said. “There is no known end date in this fight against Coronavirus, and the Red Cross urgently needs the help of blood and platelet donors to meet the needs of patient care.”

Individuals interested in participating in the blood drive are encouraged to schedule their
donation ahead of time online through Redcrossblood.org, or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS.
