TWO LOCAL AUTHORS FIND PUBLISHING SUCCESS, DESPITE NOT DOING THINGS BY THE BOOK.

From a picture-filled conversation starter to a humorously quirky crime novel, Park City authors sure know how to keep readers laughing, speculating, and turning the pages.

Joy Merritt Vik and Nancy Davidson are two self-published authors who took a page out of Frank Sinatra’s playbook and did it their way. And it’s fair to say, the end products have success written all over them.

WHEN DOGS DINE LIKE VIKINGS
She’s the owner of the Viking Yurt, a dog lover and proudly Norwegian by marriage, so it’s only natural Joy Merritt Vik found a way to tie all her defi ning traits together. Several area pups are featured in her book, When Dogs Dine Like Vikings. Th e pages are mostly filled with hilarious photos of, you guessed it, dogs dressed like Vikings and dining at the Viking Yurt.

A story does unfold in the pages, told from a dog’s perspective as either a diner or restaurant worker. There’s a Great Dane donning an apron and prepping gourmet dishes, a mutt musical ensemble to entertain and several well-heeled guests, some of which off er amusing thoughts about their dinner dates.

The book is dedicated to Lucy Dettmer, who greeted over 24,000 guests of the Viking Yurt. It’s available for purchase at Right at Home, Th e Market at Park City, Cole Sport, Stein Eriksen Lodge, Dolly’s bookstore, and Atticus bookstore on Main Street.

SLOB, SEYMORE L.O. BLOTZ, HOMICIDE DETECTIVE
Written by Park City local, Nancy Davidson, SLOB could be considered bathroom humor, but in the nicest (and most literal) possible way. Protagonist Seymore L.O. Blotz is a junk food junkie, and has the skid marks to prove it. A homicide detective, Seymore is tasked with solving a murder while untangling a complex web of LDS beliefs and characters. For added entertainment, there’s a group of transsexual hustlers running for their lives, a straight-as-an-arrow partner, and a long-suff ering Ute Indian wife, glued by mutual love to her execrably-slovenly man. Humor, heartache and heartburn are the themes of this deliciously twisted dark comedy, “whodunnit” murder mystery.

SLOB is available on Amazon.com and at Dolly’s on Main Street.
