A Higher State of Beervana

After a hard day of playing outside under the summer sun, nothing quenches quite like a cold, frothy brew. With four Park City breweries to drink from, there’s no shortage of “fortified water” to help you rehydrate and achieve a higher state of beervana.

Head to SQUATTERS BREWPUB or WASATCH BREWPUB here in Park City, and you’ll understand that Utah beer is nothing to laugh at. The two pubs, which share a brewing facility in Salt Lake City, are the most prominent labels in Utah and have both won countless awards for their crowd-pleasing recipes. Clever names pay homage to Utah’s iconic culture, from religious motifs (Wasatch’s Polygamy Porter) to outdoor recreation (Squatter’s Full Suspension Pale Ale), both of which are readily available throughout the state. More aggressive brews, like Squatter’s Outer Darkness (10.5 percent ABV) or Wasatch’s Summerbrau Lager (5.6 percent ABV), offer a high-octane blend of flavor and alcohol, reassuring Utah beer lovers that all is not forsaken.

If you prefer to wash your drink down with tasty food, make haste to RED ROCK BREWERY in Kimball Junction. From the very beginning, the founders of Red Rock Brewery set out to differentiate their brews and restaurants with a two-part plan: brew high-quality craft beers and serve delicious food that is beyond the norm of traditional pub fare. With more than 100 regional and national awards to its name, it’s safe to say that creative brews are Red Rock’s libation du jour. The brewery has been awarded the distinction of “Brew Pub of the Year” by Brewpub magazine and “Large Brewpub of the Year” by the Great American Beer Festival. Suds are fermented in Salt Lake City, and a recent expansion enabled the brewery to introduce stronger (bottled) beers into their daily lineup. Thirsty patrons can’t go wrong with the soft Honey Wheat or a caramel Irish Red, always on tap. Red Rock Brewery has been refined over the years by many passionate people who love being a part of the craft brewing community and have a deep-seeded love for the vibrant and beautiful landscape that is Utah.

SHADES OF PALE BREWING COMPANY offers artfully crafted beers that keep you coming back for more. It’s all about the ales, pales, porters and wheat’s, however there is so much more. Currently the brewing facility offers casual tours to meet the brewer, chat up some beer or purchase to go. Their mastermind concoctions can also be found in grocery stores around Park City and the Wasatch Front. Shades of Pale is beer for people with a true taste for adventure, so grab a bottle, check the label and set out on an adventure of your own. What are you thirsty for? 4-Play Porter pours deep mahogany brown with a beige head. Medium bitterness is balanced by sweet caramel maltiness. Below average carbonation contributes to a smooth, creamy mouth feel. Jack Wagon Wheat is an American Hefeweizen: hazy, golden straw in color with low hop bitterness. This is a crisp, clean session beer with slightly higher than average carbonation. Whatever your taste buds are in the mood for Shades of Pale is sure to deliver.

Whether you’re biking the trails, swimming the lakes or just cruising Main Street, local Park City brews are sure to brighten your spirits and quench your thirst for adventure.
