THE LATEST FROM SOLDIER HOLLOW
Construction is underway on Soldier Hollow Nordic Center’s competition building, bolstering its potential as a worldclass destination for biathlon and cross-country skiing. The expanded and renovated facility in Midway will include a cafe, lounge, multi-use event space, retail shop, training area and team clubhouse. The $13.5 million project will add 19,115 square feet to the current 7,670-square-foot structure. Much of the project will be completed in time to host the IBU Biathlon World Cup in March, while final completion is slated for early summer 2024.

The United States Biathlon Association is relocating its headquarters from New Gloucester, Maine, to Soldier Hollow Nordic Center. The center was the venue for biathlon and Nordic skiing for the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Winter Games. With this new western home base, the organization is tapping into already prominent Nordic skiing communities to strengthen its support and national presence. In Midway, the association gains extensive exposure to worldclass international events while working on its goal to double participation in the sport.

WE RIP HOUSING INCENTIVES
The Park City Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureau is partnering with affordable housing nonprofit Mountainlands Housing Community Trust and winter sports equipment manufacturer Rossignol to address the availability of affordable and convenient housing for Park City’s necessary seasonal workforce. WE RIP (workforce employer rental incentive program) incentivizes residents to make open bedrooms and extra units available for rent by seasonal workers in exchange for their choice of Rossignol skis or snowboard paired with bindings. The application deadline was October 31, but the organization aims to execute and expand the program annually to meet economic changes and conditions.
