Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation

The Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation supports high school and college students with dyslexia who wish to pursue a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field.

In just seven years the foundation has grown from awarding two scholarships in one state to 131 scholarships awarded in 34 states. A theme that continually emerges from former recipients is that being part of a supportive community is as equally important as the financial support they receive. These young adults realize they are not alone and that there are others who are navigating shared challenges such as access to testing, receiving a diagnosis, and obtaining accommodations. Upon hearing he was a 2021 scholarship recipient, Jacen exclaimed, “What is so special and exciting to me about this scholarship compared to others is the fact that it is so much more than just helping with the expenses of college, but an invitation to join others in their journey and become part of such an amazing-sounding community.” Part of the scholarship highlights include a peer-to-peer mentoring program and a Buddy Program to share experiences and encouragement. The organization has also partnered with PC READS to host a virtual event for parents and students on transitioning from high school to college.

As Executive Director, Founder and President, Barbara Wirostko Morelli, MD explained, “The Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation strives to recognize dyslexic students and empower them to believe in themselves. Because of our sponsors’ generous support we have the privilege of positively impacting the lives of our scholarship recipients.”
