MADE IN PARK CITY SHOWCASES THEIR LOCAL JEWELRY DESIGNERS

Winter is the perfect time to brighten up your wardrobe with a piece of jewelry. Fortunately for Parkites and visitors, our town is full of talented designers passionate to share their art. We asked Abby Hatch, owner of MadeinParkCity.com to tell us about her favorite local jewelers. And because Made in Park City was founded to promote and sell locally made products, she did not disappoint.

COPPER SOUL JEWELRY
Whitney Waters has always been an artist with a fl air for creativity. In her early years she sketched and painted. Upon receiving some unique birthday and Christmas gift s consisting of copper clay, a book on how to use it and electro-forming equipment, Whitney began a new journey. Learning to work with this new medium has turned Whitney into an artisan jewelry maker.

As it was copper that started her on a jewelry making journey, she named her company Copper Soul. Waters pours passion into every piece she makes and believes everyone should have passion in their lives.

MICHAEL MCRAE DESIGN
A self-described perfectionist, Michael McRae is an artist, metalsmith and designer. He has spent the last ten years creating artisan jewelry and is most passionate about the work that he is doing to reduce waste, such as creating his own alloys and recycling scrap silver into working stock.

As a previous photographer turned metal smith, Michael has developed a unique style when it comes to capturing the story behind his work. When asked why jewelry and why push so hard, Michael replies, “I like the dimensionality of jewelry or at least the jewelry I make and I work so incessantly in order to feed the beast because designing, creating and making things keeps me alive.”

NATURALLY FORESTED
As an outdoor enthusiast, Stephanie has always embraced the beauty of nature and draws her inspiration from the natural elements of the mountains. Her work is an art which requires attention to detail, patience and a steady hand. Th e medium of using real leaves and fl owers combined with a dual polymer can be challenging, since the raw materials are fragile and prone to breaking or tearing. It is a labor of love, with each piece being carefully hand-selected from our local mountains and craft ed individually.

Becky’s journey to jewelry design and production began with a series of personal health issues that caused her to be bedridden for a long period of time. Stringing beads became a pastime for her while she recovered. Her therapuetic hobby quickly evolved into more structured jewelry by using metal components such as aged patina brass, antique brass and silver, matte gold and silver, sterling silver and gunmetal. Th e beads she uses are semi-precious gemstones (natural, raw and polished) and pearls, turquoise, crystals and Czech glass are all used reflecting her bohemian style.
